Customers asking for proof? How to build trust as an online seller

Short answer

Buyers ask for proof because they can't see your work before paying and have heard of pages that took an advance and vanished. Answer with things that are hard to fake: your own photos and videos, a long history, a clear way to reach you, written policies, and reviews from real customers in one place. Chat screenshots alone don't work anymore, because anyone can make one.

Why customers ask for "proof"

It isn't personal. A buyer on Instagram or WhatsApp can't touch the fabric or taste the cake before paying. Most of them know someone who sent an advance to a page that then went quiet. Some have seen pages that copy another seller's photos.

So when a customer writes "is this real?" or "send proof", they are asking you to make the risk smaller. The good news: the same few things work for almost every buyer.

What doesn't convince people anymore

  • Chat screenshots in your highlights. Apps can make a fake chat in a minute, and buyers know it. Even real screenshots get called fake.
  • Follower counts. Followers can be bought, so a big number proves little.
  • Photos that aren't yours. If a buyer finds the same picture on another page, you lose them for good.

Signals that are hard to fake

  1. Your own photos and videos. Your kitchen, your hands, your packing table. A short video of you packing a real order says more than ten edited pictures.
  2. A history. Posts that go back months, with the same style and the same name, show you aren't a page that appeared last week.
  3. A clear way to reach you. A WhatsApp Business profile with your business name, city and timings, and replies that come within a few hours.
  4. Written policies. Delivery areas, how long orders take, when you ask for an advance and what happens if something goes wrong. Write them once and pin them.
  5. Reviews from real customers, in one place. One link in your bio that anyone can open, where each review clearly comes from a real person.

Show how you work

People trust what they can see. Share the process, not only the result: the dough rising, the stitching, the order list for Saturday, the parcel going to the courier. It shows there is a real person and a real business behind the page.

Make yourself easy to check

  • Use the same name everywhere: Instagram, WhatsApp Business and your review page.
  • Keep one link in your bio, not five. A buyer deciding in a minute won't open them all.
  • Answer quickly, even if it's only "Got it, I'll confirm the price within an hour."

When someone asks "is this real?"

Don't take offence. Send them somewhere they can check for themselves:

Message you can copy
Of course, it's good to check! Here are reviews from my customers, each one checked with their phone number: reviewdou.pk/yourpage Feel free to ask me anything about the order.

Or in Roman Urdu:

Message you can copy
Bilkul, check karna achhi baat hai! Yeh mere customers ke reviews hain, har review phone number se confirm shuda: reviewdou.pk/yourpage Order ke baare mein kuch bhi poochna ho to zaroor poochein.

Reviews nobody can call fake

On a free Reviewdou page, every reviewer confirms their phone number with a code before the review goes live, and you can't edit or delete reviews. That is why buyers can believe them. Start by asking your recent customers. Our WhatsApp guide has messages you can copy.

Questions people ask

Why do customers ask for proof before ordering online?

They can't see or touch the product before paying, and many have heard of pages that took an advance and disappeared. Asking for proof is how they make the risk smaller.

Are screenshot reviews enough?

Not anymore. Fake chat screenshots are easy to make, so buyers doubt even real ones. Reviews on a page where each reviewer is checked carry more weight.

How can a new seller with no reviews build trust?

Start with people who know you, ask every one of them for an honest review, post your own photos and process, write clear policies, and reply quickly. If you can, offer cash on delivery for first orders nearby.

Should I show my customers’ names?

Only what they agree to show. On Reviewdou the reviewer picks the name that appears, and their phone number is never shown.
